Commercial Design Projects

• 21 O'fallon Street – William A Kerr Foundation Lacledes Landing – a LEED platinum certified project for the rehabilitation of existing commercial buildings into an environmentally sensitive development utilizing alternative water reclamation (bio swales, rain garden, detention planter, permeable paving), adapted plants, irrigation water use, rain barrels, and other low impact site development strategies. Winner of the American Society of Landscape Architects St. Louis Chapter Award of Merit.

• University City – Low Impact Stormwater Management City Pilot Program – part of a grant funded project to design and implement examples of low impact storm water management strategies for both residential and commercial applications throughout the city. Acorn is designing both the physical implementation of the best management practices, as well as developing water quality testing procedures, testing methods, resident perception data analysis, public awareness materials, presentation and complete study follow-up and analysis.

• Dave Mungenast Lexus Dealership – St. Louis, MO – (Applying for LEED certification) – is now in the design and development stage.

• Luther Ely Smith National Park Garden – St. Louis, MO – Located in front of the Old Courthouse and Adjacent to the Arch in Downtown St. Louis and winner of the American Society of Landscape Architects St. Louis Chapter Honor Award. This garden was designed in a geometric naturalism style and is a modern geometric design reflecting the geometry of the Gateway Arch. It utilizes plant material with strong foliage colors arranged in masses for both ground level and aerial appeal. This garden was installed by a cooperative volunteer effort of Acorn Landscapes, The Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri and the National Park Service.

• Frieze Harley Davidson, Belleville IL. – a LEED Gold Certified motorcycle shop and retail facility employing green building and site features including several acres of native prairie restoration.

• Bear Creek Conservation Community – Columbia, MO – Part of the initial design team called on to conceptualize a new development with the priority to conserve the pristine native prairie of the site, as well as incorporate “green” building technology into the site and site plan for a new mixed use development.

• Greycliff - McBride and Son Subdivision – South County, MO – As a consultant for McBride and Son, Acorn was part of team responsible for preliminary design, initial lot layout and open space configuration, master planning and conceptual landscape design. Landscape budget in excess of 1.4M. Responsible for open preliminary space layout, clubhouse and parking site design, conceptual design schemes for landscape, hardscape and site design elements, and presentation materials depicting site design and landscape schemes for initial public meetings.

• Chateaux at Woodfield – Fulford Homes Subdivision - O’Fallon, IL – As a member of the primary design team, Mary was involved in the initial subdivision layout, as well as the configuration of open spaces. Was the primary designer for the 2 open spaces which consist of a large formal French sunken garden, overlook and strolling park, entry monuments and seating areas.

• Stallone Formal Wear – Chesterfield, MO – A planting and landscape plan was developed to meet the requirements of the City of Chesterfield.

• Co-Housing Residential Development – St. Louis, MO – An innovative development near Gaslight Square that includes many “green” building concepts, stormwater bio retention solutions, as well as direct input from the future residents and community enhancing design.


Residential Design Projects

• Sage Homebuilders Showcase LEED Home – a LEED for homes pilot project (applying for gold certification) is now in the construction phase of a high end residential showcase home with landscape features including preserved woodlands, 1/3 acre of wildflower/native gardens, and 100% Native Landscaping, along with a rain garden and bio swales.
